Allan Court Care Home, which is part of Bondcare Shaftesbury, welcomed some special guests to celebrate resident Elizabeth (Betty) Watson’s 100th birthday.
Betty was joined by the Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor George Pattison, The Lady Mayoress, Councillor Sharon Pattison and Councillor Hazel Stephenson, for a special party to mark her milestone birthday.
Betty, who is originally from Gateshead, spent her special day enjoying a garden party, with the highlight being a telegram from the Queen, which was presented to her by Councillor George Pattison.
Making the day even more special, Betty’s nephew David and his wife who live in Chichester travelled up for the celebration.
As Betty’s favourite colours are lemon and lime, guests attending the party wore the colours and the cake was decorated similarly.
Betty, who worked as a Wages Clerk for British Road Services all her life, has one sister, Ella Burn, who lives in Chichester and travelled up especially for the celebrations. Making it even more special, Betty was also joined by her close friend, Kim Prior.
Based on Benwell Lane in Benwell, Allan Court provides specialist care, including general nursing, general residential, dementia care and adults with learning difficulties for up to 58 elderly residents.
Chris Denton, Manager at Allan Court, said: “Betty is a very popular resident, so everyone enjoyed sharing her special day. We’d like to say a big thank you to Councillor George Pattison for taking the time out of his busy schedule to attend the garden party.
“It was fantastic to see Betty’s face light up when she was joined by her sister and best friend and it was clear that she really enjoyed the party, as did all the residents and guests.”
